The invisible barrier: consolidation + preventive protection

Application by brush, spray or vacuum impregnation of consolidants and PT8 biocides on the wood surface. Creates a lasting barrier against new wood-boring attacks and decay fungi. Always recommended as the final step of any curative treatment.

Regulatory references: PT8 ECHA · sali di boro / permetrina
● In the field

"Surface impregnation is the final complement of any serious treatment: it creates a barrier the wood keeps for years."

What it is

Surface chemical-physical treatment where biocide (and/or consolidant) penetrates the first millimetres of wood and stays as an active reserve. Modern formulations:

• Water-based: boron salts (low impact, ideal for inhabited spaces).
• Solvent-based: permethrin or cyfluthrin in white spirit (greater penetration, up to 20-year durability).
• Oil-based: linseed + wax for aesthetic consolidation (antique furniture, wooden statues).

Applied after curative treatments (anoxia, microwave, endotherapy) to protect treated wood from re-infestation.

References

• PT8 – ECHA-authorised wood preservatives.
• EN 599-1 – preservative efficacy.
• EN 113 – fungal efficacy test.
• EN 46-1 – wood-borer efficacy test.

Every applied product has SDS, ECHA registration number and efficacy declaration per EN standards.

Who needs it

Post-curative treatment: essential after anoxia, microwave or endotherapy — protects from re-infestation risk.
New wood in construction (under-roof planks, new beams, shingles): preventive impregnation at installation.
External components (gazebos, pergolas, garden sheds): periodic treatment every 3-5 years.
Furniture showing suspicious holes without certain biological activity: safety treatment.

Our approach

Preventive cleaning of wood (dust removal, possible varnish stripping).
Compatibility test on small area: some waxed or varnished woods may repel the product.
Application in 2-3 coats 4-8 hours apart.
Complete drying time: 24-72 hours depending on formulation.

For vacuum impregnation in autoclave (deeper) we deliver pieces to the lab: penetration up to 6-10 mm for softwoods.

Documentation: technical report with before/after photos, product SDS, recommended renewal schedule.
